More discuss about the causes of the Ho dynasty defeat in the resistance against the Ming army aggression (1406 – 1407)
Abstract
At the beginning of the 15th century, knowing the intention of the invasion of the Ming dynasty, Ho Quy Ly and his son tried to prepare carefully for the resistance. However, that attempt was unsuccessful, the Ho Dynasty collapsed and our country was invaded by the Ming invaders. The Ho’s defeat in the resistance against the Ming invasion ultimately was caused by two basic reason groups. The objective causes were that the Ming was strong, with a military superiority over the Ho, and the consequences of the crisis at the end of the Tran dynasty made the Ho dynasty deplete. Regarding the subjective causes, the first factor is that the Ho dynasty was not supported by the people (due to the annoying policy and the reform’s failure). The second factor was the failure in the mistakes in the resistance war against the Ming army, especially the strategic and tactical lines. This is considered to be the most fundamental cause of the Ho Dynasty defeat. Understanding the cause of the Ho dynasty defeat in the resistance against the Ming aggression is not only meaningful to historical science, but also has great practical value, especially in the construction and protection our country in the present and the future.
