The eyesight status of primary pupils in Binh Dinh province in the period of 2015 – 2016

Abstract

The objective of the paper is to contribute to assessing the vision status of students from 6 to 10 years old in Binh Dinh province in the period of 2015 - 2016. The research is conducted on 6,514 primary school pupils in three ecological areas: urban, rural and mountainous area. The findings show that , 6-year-old children have an average visual score of 9.66 points; 7 years old with 9.59 points; 8 years old with 9.46 points; 9 years old with 9.32 points and 10 years old with 8.95 points. The average annual decrease is 0.18 points. The average visual decrease rate of children is 17%. In particular, urban pupils have a visual decrease rate of 23.81%; rural pupils with 15.83% and mountainous pupils with 13.87%. So their eyesight decreases gradually from 6 to 10 years old and urban pupils have the highest rate of visual decrease, followed by rural pupils and the lowest is mountainous pupils.
