Abstract
Description is a basic way of expression that is successfully used by Nguyen Huy Tuong in the story Toad is the Uncle of Heaven. This short story is rewritten from a folk tales Toad Sues Heaven. Originating from many different reasons, the writer tries to use the ability to describe lively the scene of the drought and the image of the army asking for rain. The prominent character in the story is Toad. Although the Toad character’s appearance is ugly, he’s a smart and brave leader who is able to force the Heaven to give rain for the earth. The success of using description in Toad is the Uncle of Heaven story is also the result of frequently using personification, comparisons, reduplication measures, and especially alliteration that is rich in descriptive and expressive abilities .
