Overweight and obesity of staffs and lecturers at Quy Nhon University in 2018

Abstract

Overweight and obesity are no longer the disease of rich countries, but it has become a global problem. Overweight - obesity affects the development and increases the risk of chronic non-spread disease. The cross-sectional study was performed on 386 staffs and lecturers at Quy Nhon University, Quy Nhơn City, Binh Dinh Province to evaluate the situation of overweight-obesity of staffs and lecturers. Staffs and lecturers were interviewed by the questionnaires and measured weight, height by anthropometric method. We found that the rate of overweight and obesity is extremely high at 47.15%. The figure for men (60.54%) is higher than for women (38.91%). Besides, the older group is substantially more overweight than the others. The 4 age groups show these rates of overweight: A, B, C and D at 27.78%, 49.26%, 50.85% and 58.33% respectively. The number of young staffs and lecturers is also significantly high, accounting for 49.26%.
