Abstract

S pending on children's education is a matter of concern in Vietnam. Although it is currently maintained at high level s in Vietnam , it is still lower than that in other developed countries. T his study aims to determine how household characteristics affect people's expenditure on children's education in eight provinces in the South Central Coast region. The research team uses Tobit censored regression model based on the VHLSS 2020. This dataset helps the author to collect information on education spending and socioeconomic characteristics of the population. The results show that the average level of expenditure on education accounts for 14-23% of income. F emale heads of households with higher education levels tend to spend more on education than men. There is also a significant difference between urban and rural households in expenditure level . The estimated results by Tobit model show that variables including household size, ethnicity and education level of the household head are factors that significantly affect spending on children's education. The study provides scientific evidence to help policymakers devise plans to boost future spending on education.
