Designing teaching topic “Making face shields to prevent Covid – 19” based on STEM education with a view to develop problem solving and creativity competence for high school students
Abstract
STEM education is considered as the most critical solution in innovating teaching methods and developing students’ capacity, including problem solving and creativity - a vital competence, which helps students solve matters in learning, link the knowledge gained from school with real life, production and global issues. In the context that Covid - 19 pandemic is endangering human health, this study has applied the STEM education model in teaching, designing and teaching the topic "Making a face shield to prevent Covid - 19". This teaching plan was experimented at two high schools in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province. The result indicated the feasibility of this STEM model in teaching, improving students' self-discipline and positivity, developing problem solving and creativity competence, and educating them to participate in repelling social problems.
